Subject: NASABA Convention 2011 – Call for Volunteers!

Dear All:

My name is Nikhil Ramnaney and I am the Chair of the Venue and Logistics committee for the upcoming 2011 NASABA Convention.  I want to extend a personal invitation to each of you to attend the upcoming NASABA (North American South Asian Bar Association) Convention on June 23-26th, 2011.  It will be held at the JW Mariott at Los Angeles’ premier entertainment venue, LA Live.

This year promises to be a prolific year full of exciting key note speakers. Law student registration is $150.  Information about the speakers and programming can be found at:

http://nasabaconvention.org/register.htm

Additionally, the Convention is looking for volunteers. Law students and recent graduates are eligible to participate in the volunteer program.  In exchange for 15 hours of volunteer service, individuals will be able to attend the convention for free.  Moreover, I will personally work with all volunteers to facilitate a volunteer schedule that allows them to attend the panels they are most interested in attending.

Interested? Please email Nikhil Ramnaney @ nikhil.ramnaney@gmail.com or call me at 562-310-9040.

Thank you!

Subject: Opportunities at the Department of Justice

Dear NASALSA leader;
As Special Counsel for Diversity Outreach and Recruitment at the U.S. Department of Justice, I would like to share with you some information about Justice’s Summer Law Internship Program (SLIP) and the Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP).  A primary purpose of this email is to make you and your student members aware of these programs and the applicable  deadlines, which are early.
The Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP) is Justice’s recruitment program for entry-level attorneys, and is the only way Justice hires graduating law students.  Judicial law clerks, full-time graduate law program (LLM) students, and law school graduates in qualifying full-time legal fellowships are also eligible.  The first opportunity for law students to apply for HP is the summer before their third year of law school This year, the on-line centralized electronic application opens July 25, 2011, and closes September 6, 2011.  Participating Justice offices and components will be listed at: www.justice.gov/oarm/arm/hp/hpparticipatingcomp.htm.
The Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP) is Justice’s competitive recruitment program for compensatedsummer internships.  Law students who have completed at least one full semester of law school by theapplication deadline are eligible to apply; however, the majority of SLIPs are second-year law students who work at Justice the summer between their second and third years of law school.  But the SLIP is also open to recent graduates between graduation and the start of a judicial clerkship or full-time qualifying legal fellowship.  This year, the on-line centralized electronic application opens July 25, 2011, and closes September 6, 2011 Thus, current 1Ls (i.e., rising 2Ls) who are interested in a paid internship for Summer 2012 should apply by September 6, 2011.  Participating Justice offices andcomponents will be listed at:  www.justice.gov/oarm/arm/sp/spcomponents.htm
Because you are a leader at both your law school and of  NASALSA, I ask that you please share this information with your classmates and the general NASALSA membership.  I hope that you will encourage them to consider taking advantage of these great opportunities, and also point out to themthat both our SLIP and HP programs have early application deadlines.
More information about Justice’s hiring programs, including volunteer internship opportunities across the county, may be found at the Office of Attorney Recruitment and Management (OARM) website at: http://www.justice.gov/oarm/
Please feel free to contact me should you have any additional questions regarding Justice’s hiring programs or about the Department in general.
Warm regards,
Richard Parker
